About eileen belmont wischnia, Greater Philadelphia Quilt Designer, Fabric Artist, and Sewing Instructor
Meet the “ei” of the needle: eileen belmont wischnia. Gifted with an extraordinary “ei” for detail, this respected Main Line Philadelphia quilt artist-teacher has been sewing under this label for over 25 years. First taught how to stitch by her mother while in grade school, eileen has enjoyed a life-long love affair with fabric and design, two passions she has managed to intertwine as her life’s work. What once began as a hobby … enjoyed during the late hours of the night, after her husband and three daughters had gone to sleep … is now the full-time focus of eileen’s creative energy, even though she still often finds herself stealing into the studio long past dark, as inspiration guides her.
With a background in clothing design, garment and costume construction, and accessory development, eileen’s transition into piecing and quilting occurred as a very natural step. Her current areas of focus are Memory Quilts and Quilted Wall Art, and her work now graces homes and businesses throughout the East Coast. eileen’s love of fabric – with its infinite colors, shapes, designs, and textures – is clearly visible in her work, which features seamless combinations of the expected with the unexpected. Contact eileen to discuss a special project.

Educated at the University of Pennsylvania, with graduate degrees in teaching from the University of Cincinnati and Boston University, eileen’s first career began in public education – as a teacher, coordinator, and supervisor of reading programs. In time, eileen discovered a way to weave this experience with her design and sewing talents, teaching Greater Philadelphia sewing classes for children and adults. Here, ei of the needle was born.
Today, eileen teaches private lessons to individuals and small groups at her studio in Ardmore, in addition to providing instruction at several local community and commercial venues.
